A warm welcome to students from USA

“One of the greatest advantages of being a student at LSHTM is the immensely wide array of topics that you can study within the broader field of public health.†Mahdin Hossain, MSc Public Health

The °®ÍþÄÌapp of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is a global leader in public health and infectious disease research. With students from over 190 countries, we are proud to have a vibrant community of USA students who contribute to our academic excellence and global perspective. This page provides specific information for applicants from USA, including entry requirements, programmes on offer, and support available to help you thrive at LSHTM.

Our partnership with the USA traces back to the 1920s, when the Rockefeller Foundation supported the construction of our central London building. It continues to grow in strength today, with the Gates Foundation remaining one of our key research partners. LSHTM also collaborates with US institutions such as Harvard and Johns Hopkins on topics including mental health, TB, HIV, vaccines and global health security. In 2009, LSHTM became the first non-US institution to receive the Gates Award for Global Health, and more recently, Sir Andy Haines was awarded the 2022 Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement for his pioneering research on the links between climate change and human health.

US students form a significant part of our global community. Alumni now lead impactful careers in public health at institutions like the Centers for Disease Control, NIH, and leading universities, as well as global organisations such as the World Health Organization and Doctors Without Borders. Their work spans research, policy, and frontline response, and helps to advance health equity worldwide.
