A warm welcome to students from Nigeria
The °®ÍþÄÌapp of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is a global leader in public health and infectious disease research. With students from over 190 countries, we are proud to have a vibrant community of Nigerian students who contribute to our academic excellence and global perspective. This page provides specific information for applicants from Nigeria, including entry requirements, programmes on offer, and support available to help you thrive at LSHTM.
LSHTM has a long history of working with Nigeria to support public health education, research, and local expertise. We collaborate closely with institutions such as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control to address key health challenges from infectious and non-communicable diseases to strengthening health systems. Our focus is on locally relevant, evidence-based approaches to improve health outcomes. One example is our work on Lassa fever, where LSHTM, through the UK Public Health Rapid Support Team, has collaborated with Nigerian health authorities to improve outbreak response, surveillance, and research on prevention and treatment.
We are proud of our many Nigerian alumni who have gone on to make real impact, such as Cassandra Akinde, who was honoured with the Study UK Nigeria Alumni Award in 2024. She enhanced her research skills through volunteering with the LSHTM Vaccine Centre and now leads The Neo Child Initiative for Africa, improving healthcare and education for children in low-resource settings.
Nigerian students and researchers are an integral part of LSHTM’s community, contributing to knowledge exchange and public health innovation. Through these partnerships, Nigeria continues to play a key role in developing health solutions that make a lasting impact across Africa and worldwide.
