Our governance structure ensures that the MRC/UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit operates with integrity, transparency, and accountability in all its research, partnerships, and operations.
We are jointly governed through a collaborative partnership between the UK Research and Innovation/Medical Research Council (UKRI/MRC), the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI), and the °®ÍþÄÌapp of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). This unique tripartite model blends international research standards with national priorities and local ownership.
Strategic Oversight
The Unit’s work is guided by a Scientific Advisory Board composed of eminent researchers and thought leaders across disciplines, both within Uganda and globally. This board provides independent, expert advice on scientific direction, strategy, and emerging priorities.
Leadership and Management
The Unit Director leads a multidisciplinary Executive Committee responsible for operational delivery, scientific leadership, financial oversight, and partnership management. This team works closely with Heads of Research Themes and Platforms to implement strategic objectives.
Institutional Accountability
We adhere to the governance policies of our parent institutions and the Uganda government. All research undergoes ethical review through accredited institutional review boards, and we maintain strict standards of data protection, research integrity, and financial stewardship.
Values-Based Decision Making
Our approach is grounded in equity, inclusiveness, and research excellence. We engage our communities, collaborators, and stakeholders in shaping research priorities, ensuring that our governance is not only top-down but also informed by those most impacted by our work.
