Abigail Ayorinde won a full scholarship to attend a Wellcome Trust Advance Training Course in Molecular Approaches to Clinical Microbiology. The training will take place in Nairobi, Kenya from 9th to 14th September 2018. Abigail currently works as a Scientific Officer in the Vaccines and Immunity Theme and is a member of the Childhood TB program team. Her work has covered basic microscopy, microbiology, immunology and molecular analysis, and she has taken forward the spoligotyping of the childhood TB isolates. She successfully completed a competitive MRC-funded BSc Honors degree in Applied Biological Sciences at the University of Ulster in February 2016. Previously, Abigail obtained a foundation degree in Biomedical Science.

The Wellcome Trust Advanced Course is an intensive programme that provides clinical microbiologists and laboratory scientists working in Africa with a concise yet comprehensive overview of the latest research and practice. It also provides emphasis on how these techniques can be applied day-to-day in a resource-limited setting, like in The Gambia.
