I am a physician in HIV and Sexual Health at University Hospital Sussex and an active clinician scientist working on improving the treatment of HIV and opportunistic infections in sub-Saharan Africa. I undertook an LSHTM Wellcome-funded PhD based at the Infectious Diseaes Instituite in Uganda and I remain involved in brain infection research with the meningitis team. I work closely with the MRC/UVRI-LSHTM Uganda Research Unit through a Wellcome Early Career Award which aims to support the effective and equitable implementation of long-acting HIV treatments in programmatic care settings in Africa. I am co-Chair of an interntional HIV conference - the African Workshop in HIV and Women. I am Chair of the British HIV Association Education and Scientific Committee.

Research
My interests lie in HIV treatment, the diagnosis and treatment of HIV-related opportunistic infections. I am Chief Investigator of a phase III randomised clinical trial called IMPALA '°®ÍþÄÌapp HIV outcomes in Africa with Long-acting Antiretroviral therapy' so I work closely with colleagues at the trial coordinating centre at MRC/UVRI-LSHTM Uganda Research Unit and collaborators in Uganda, Kenya and South Africa. Through a Wellcome Early Career Award I am investigating the clinical pharamcology of long-acting HIV treatment in Africa with a view to personalising therapy. I am also site-investigator on the Cabotegravir and Rilpivirine Efficacy and Safety (CARES) study in Uganda. I lead an observational study on injectable HIV treatment in the UK. I continue to study TB meningitis an Investigator on the HARVEST multi-country trial of high-dose rifampicin for TB meningitis at the Infectious Diseases Institute, Uganda, Caprisa in South Africa, Oxford University Clinical Research Unit in Indonesia, Universities Padjadjaran, Radboud University in the Netherlands and University of Minnesota. My areas of expertise are in clinical trials, clinical pharmacology and translational research.
