The Research Governance Department ensures that all research conducted at the Unit adheres to the highest standards of ethics, compliance, and scientific integrity. It provides oversight and support across the research lifecycle, from protocol development to study closure, ensuring that research activities meet local and international regulatory requirements.
The department serves as a central resource for investigators and study teams, offering guidance on ethical approvals, regulatory submissions, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and research policy implementation. It works closely with the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology, institutional review boards, and international collaborators to ensure transparency, accountability, and the protection of research participants.
By supporting risk management, internal monitoring, and continuous training, the Research Governance team strengthens the Unit’s capacity to deliver high-quality research that is ethically sound, legally compliant, and socially responsible.
