The Bioinformatics Platform supports the Unit’s research by providing advanced computational tools and expertise for the analysis, interpretation, and visualization of complex biological data. It plays a central role in driving data-informed discoveries across genomics, transcriptomics, microbiome research, and other high-throughput molecular technologies.

The platform hosts the Uganda Medical Informatics Centre (UMIC), a state-of-the-art data centre that provides secure, high-performance computing infrastructure for managing and analyzing large-scale research datasets. This infrastructure enables cutting-edge computational analyses that support both local and international collaborations.

The UMIC team partners with scientists across research themes to design robust data workflows, manage datasets, and develop custom pipelines tailored to specific studies.

With a focus on capacity building, the platform also offers training and mentorship to researchers and students, equipping them with essential computational biology skills.

Through strategic partnerships and continuous technological upgrades, the Bioinformatics Platform ensures that the Unit remains at the forefront of data-driven health research in Africa.
