Professor Bernard Rachet

Professor of Cancer Epidemiology

United Kingdom

Bernard Rachet leads the Inequalities in Cancer Outcomes Network (ICON) group, overseeing a wide range of projects that quantify and explain socio-demographic and geographic inequalities in cancer care and outcomes. His recent research increasingly integrates interdisciplinary approaches to assess the impact of policies on these inequalities, in collaboration with research partners across the UK and worldwide. Patient and Public Involvement has also become central to his research. Another key focus is the development and refinement of analytical methods and tools to address research questions and communicate findings to policymakers and stakeholders.

Originally trained as a medical doctor in France, Bernard transitioned to epidemiology after clinical practice. He earned an MSc in Epidemiology in Paris and a PhD in Epidemiology at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in Lyon, France. Before joining the °®ÍþÄÌapp of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in July 2002, he spent three years as a postdoctoral fellow in Montréal, Canada, focusing on cancer risks related to occupational and environmental exposures and advancing analytical methods.
