Dr Kate Mansfield

Kate is an observational epidemiologist with a background in clinical medicine. She uses large electronic health record databases to answer epidemiological questions across a range of medical conditions, including vaccine uptake, safety and effectiveness, infections, and mental health conditions.

Kate leads the 'Making the most of real-world data' research theme of the NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in Vaccines and Immunisation, a partnership between LSHTM and UK Health Security Agency.

Teaching
Kate was previously Faculty of Epidemiology and Population Health Taught Programme Director alongside Melanie Morris. She teaches on the Extended Epidemiology and Design and Analysis of Epidemiological Studies MSc modules, and on the Intensive Course in Epidemiology and Medical Statistics short course.

Research
Kate's current research uses large electronic medical record databases to answer epidemiological questions about vaccines, infections, and mental health conditions.

She also has an interest in long-COVID, chronic widespread pain, fibromyalgia and other functional somatic syndromes, kidney disease, atopic eczema, psoriasis, and dementia.
