Fabio is a practising medical oncologist and epidemiologist.
After completing his medical training in Padova (Italy), Fabio worked for several years as a consultant, mostly in community hospitals. In 2015 Fabio moved to the UK to embark on an MPhil in Epidemiology at the University of Cambridge, and, in 2017, on a funded PhD with the Cancer Survival Group at the app of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Here he contributed to the CONCORD programme for the global surveillance of population-based cancer survival. During his PhD, Fabio had also the opportunity to serve as a commissioner for the Lancet Oncology Commission on Sustainable Care for Children with Cancer.
Fabio was awarded his PhD in April 2021 with the thesis, “Global surveillance of survival from intrinsic brain tumours diagnosed during 2000-2014: trends by age and histology”, and went on to collaborate with the Cancer Survival Group as an Honorary Clinical Assistant Professor in Cancer Epidemiology.
In 2020 Fabio relocated to his home country to take on a post as senior consultant medical oncologist at the Istituto Oncologico Veneto in Padova, a cancer referral centre in the northeast of Italy, where he specialises in breast cancer management. Fabio’s research interests include trends in population-based cancer survival and research synthesis.
